James M Wright Papers, 1896-1964.

The bulk of the James M. Wright papers, circa 1964, consists of handwritten research on note cards, handwritten manuscripts, typescripts, and galleys of his book, The License System of the City of Atlanta (1964). Box 4 contains subject files containing articles, pamphlets, reports, surveys, and other printed material related to public utilities, taxation, religion, slavery, and transportation. Information about Wright's background in education and employment is contained in the folder titled, Education and Employment History, 1896-1938.

Scott, the school was renamed Agnes Scott Institute to honor his mother. James M. Wright (1880-?) spent his youth in Missouri, and attended Norborne public schools. After high school, Wright completed undergraduate work at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, before graduating with a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. He married Eva Burrus on 5 September 1906 in Liberty, Missouri and they had one son, James M. Wright.
